Teacher Researchers

Applications for 2024:
Open Monday 26 February - Close Wednesday 3 April

Under contract to the Ministry of Education, the Curriculum Insights and Progress Study will be conducted during Term 3 of the school year in 160 randomly-selected schools across Aotearoa New Zealand. This study is the successor to the National Monitoring Study of Student Achievement (NMSSA).

Teacher Researchers are a vital part of our team. They do the important work of traveling from school to school, in pairs, to collect achievement information. They work with small groups of students on a variety of assessment tasks. These include rich curriculum tasks, computer based tasks, paper and pencil assessments, performance activities, interviews and questionnaires. The tasks are engaging and students enjoy working with our team.

The school visit study focuses on different learning areas each year, and we aim to recruit registered and certified practising teachers with relevant strengths. In 2024, the focus will be mathematics and statistics and science, working with Year 3, Year 6 and Year 8 students.

Teacher Researchers value the experience of working with us and enjoy visiting a range of schools. Many find the experience is a rewarding opportunity for professional development.

In 2024, Teacher Researchers will join us for Term 3. Their engagement begins with a five-day training programme in Wellington (22-26 July). They work within their home region as much as possible, but travel is often required and we make all the arrangements needed. Teachers are either seconded to us from their current employer, or employed on fixed-term contracts.
