The National Monitoring Study of Student Achievement (NMSSA) data can be accessed for secondary analysis by researchers, educators and post-graduate research students.

Data are collected about the achievement in each learning area of the New Zealand Curriculum from nationally representative samples of Year 4 and Year 8 students in English-medium state schools. Contextual information from students, teachers and principals via questionnaires is also gathered to understand the factors that are associated with achievement. A specific focus is placed on three key priority learner groups: Maori, Pasifika and students with special education needs. NMSSA Data Available.
